New York State Rifle Pistol Association/NRA Light Rifle

We shoot in the New York State Rifle Pistol Association Light Rifle League. We shoot every Friday from mid-September
until mid-March.

NYSRPA/NRA Light Rife is a postal target competition using .22 cal. rimfire rifles. The shooting position is off-hand standing
with the target at 50 feet. The sport is designed so that expensive special equipment is not required. It is possible to be competitive
with equipment you may already own. There is a maximum weight on scoped or open sight guns of 8.5 pounds. Slings or other devices
that provide artificial support are not allowed.

Matches are held weekly through out the season. A match consists of 3 completed targets with 10 shots per target.
Shooters are given 15 minutes to complete each target. The target used is the NRA Official Light Rifle Target A-32.
The maximum score per target is 100. A perfect match score is 300.

NYSRPA/NRA Light Rifle is a postal league. Teams shoot their weekly matches at their own ranges. The team
captains compile the scores and Email them to the Newsletter Editor who compares them to the scores of the
team with whom you are paired that week to determine winners.

The league is open to any safe .22 cal. LR firearm regardless of action design
(Pump, Lever Action, Semi-Automatic, Bolt Action, etc.) Magazines may be used
to load and fire record shots. An Empty Chamber Indicator (ECI) Must be used
after firing and can be purchased at the club for a very small fee.

If you own any style .22 caliber rifle and have an interest in shooting, please come to the Club and
and enjoy some fun with some of New York States's finest riflemen and women!

Shooting .22' is a fun and inexpensive way to keep your skills up and a great way to meet others who will share their
knowledge in this fun sport. It is also a great family night out too! Due to New York State law shooters
must be a minimum of 12 years of age.
Below is a link to the NRA's Light Rifle Program and also a link to their
updated Smallbore Rules. See Section 22 for Complete Light Rifle Rules. We will be using the Standing/Offhand position
for our NYS League.

Under section 22, Rule 3.3 Light Rifle, you will note at the bottom that tournament sponsors are authorized to restrict
competitors to the use of only bolt action rifles, if required by range regulations. Many of you are questioning this rule.
I will leave this up to the discretion of the clubs and captains. I feel as long as all safety rules are followed, and Empty
chamber indicators(ECI's) are used, firearms are cleared and magazines are emptied and removed before the rifles leave the line
there should be not be a problem with using magazine feed firearms. I have been asked by many of you, as an example, if a
10/22 Ruger can be used in Light Rifle. If your captain says the use of any safe .22 is OK, I will leave the discretion of
each club to determine, per their range safety rules, as to the type of rifles used in Light Rifle Competition. I must
stress though, that neither the State Association, I nor the Jamestown Rifle Club will be held liable
for any safety violations; that will be the responsibility of each club's Range Safety Officer, Captain, and each Competitor.

This opens the competition to rifles of most all configurations. Examples are pump action, lever action, semi-auto, etc. which having
to feed them single shot would be nearly impossible in most cases. Again. a way to grow this great sport. Also another change from
the former program is Standing Position Rule 5.12, which says that the sponsor may elect to delete the last sentence of Rule 5.12 I feel
that the rule for leaving your forward arm free of the body will be left up to the competitor. So if they would like to use their body for
support of the forward arm, by means, do so. This rue only applied women and seniors in the former program; the NRA makes no such restriction.
