Jamestown Junior Rifle Club
Introductory Program for Newcomers
The Jamestown Junior Rifle club offers an NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course; anyone aged 12 and above are welcome to attend. These 3-hour classes will take place each Thursday evening for 6 to 8 weeks. All classes will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Jamestown Rifle Club.
During our classes, new students learn the sport of smallbore 4-position, precision target rifle shooting. They are taught to shoot indoors and learn all 4 positions: Prone, Offhand (standing), Kneeling and Sitting. The importance of safety is stressed in every class/every week; “Safety first, last and always” is our focus.
Students are supplied with all equipment needed by the Jamestown Jr. Rifle Club. A one-time fee of $40.00 is charged for ammunition and supplies. During this class a student will have an opportunity to shoot a .22 long rifle firearm. Classroom instruction will be longer the first few weeks, but gradually decrease as the weeks progress, giving more opportunity for students to use the indoor range.
Upon successful completion of this course, all students are required to take a test to assess their basic knowledge and understanding of these classes. If students want to pursue this sport they are most welcome to join our experienced junior team and shoot all 4 positions every week.
Juniors compete individually for N.R.A. awards and against each other for club trophies. Our indoor program runs from September until March, concluding with an awards banquet held in honor of all juniors in April. All earned awards are handed out at this time and talk begins of starting our outdoor season.
